There are some common foundations for the children' s natural development, while the social and cultural contexts for children development should be considered as an important factor in exploring these foundations. Expecting for constructing a beneficial cultural environment for children development, the characteristics of children' s psychological adjustments and school efforts influenced by parenting practices in social and cultural contexts is discussed in the paper. In the study, we investi- gated American and Chinese children' s perceptions on the parental authorities and practices, and analyzed children' s interpretations on the reasons of such parental practices. The purpose of the study is to understanding the meanings of the interaction between children' s social psychological adjustment and their social experience in different cultural contexts, in order to explore children' s autonomy and psychological adjustment in social and cultural environments.
