By the end of 1970s, the role of the African Christian Church in the national political life had been insignificant. For the consideration of existence, the Church made a compromise to the authority, or cooperated with it. However, into the 1980s, the African Christian Church gradually became more and more active in politics and played a significant role in the process of democratization. There are many reasons for this change. In addition to the internal reasons, such as the deteri- oration of the political and economic situation of the African countries, the change of the relations between the African Christian Church and the state, and the enhance- ment of the strength of African Christian church; the global political climate and the international Christian Church's organizations can be discerned as the external rea- sons.
