Structural Ambiguities in EST Translation and the Counter-Measures

结构歧义是科技英语中的语言现象,常见的有隔位结构、并列结构和指代不明等导致的歧义,这些歧义会对句子甚至语篇的正确理解造成障碍并可能导致误读误译。但通过语法分析、逻辑分析、语境分析、语义分析以及专业知识可以消除歧义,并提高理解和翻译的准确性。

Structural ambiguity is very common in EST reading. In some cases, the ambiguities can create a barrier to the under- standing of a sentence or even the whole article, and cause misunderstanding and mistranslation. In this paper, an explorative discus- sion is made of the comprehension and translation of structural ambiguity in EST reading from three aspects, i.e. discontinuous struc- ture, coordinate structure and ambiguous reference of pronouns.
