Mori Ougai,an outstanding person in the modern Japanese literature,was also the forerunner of the romanticism literature.Together with Soseki Natsume,a leading authority in the literature realm,they were called the two most prestigious stars in the modern Japanese literature.Being the maiden work of mori ogai＇s novel,wuji was also among the representative work of his earlier creative writing on the romanticism literature.Through its unique view,the novel has described a woeful yet touching love story,which has reflected the conflicts between the awakened Japanese intellectuals and the modern society.The paper bases on the social and cultural background in the early meiji era.Besides,it has also elaborated the roots of the love tragedy of wuji from various perspectives of view in order to precisely grasp the author＇s anti-naturalism and eulogize the spirit of romanticism.
