吴汝纶在莲池书院的教育改革述评

A Review of Wu Rulun and his Educational Reform in Lianchi Academy

作为莲池书院的最后一任院长,近代教育家吴汝纶积极投身于书院的教育改革事业当中。他改变书院生徒学风,反对围绕科举而学习;创立新式教学机构,增加"实学"、"西学"课程;改革招生、管理环节,提高办学效益和教学实效;开源节流,多渠道筹措经费。他的改革措施使莲池书院发展到鼎盛时期,成为当时北方的学术中心,培养了众多人才,在中国教育的近代转型过程中具有自身独有的价值与意义。

Wu Rulun , a modern Chinese educator and being the final president he threw himself into the educational reform of lotus-pond （lianchi） academy. He changed the style of study, combated the former one which was just for the imperial examination; he established a new teaching institution and enriched the lectures with substantial western literature; he improved the link of students recruit and management and increased social efficiency and teaching results. He paid attention to the broadening of sources of income and reduction of expenditure, the raise of teaching funds. Thanks to his reform, Lianchi Academy got into a period of great prosperity and it became the academic centre in the North at that time and it has trained a lot of professional personnel. It has particular value and significance in modern transformation of Chinese education.
