Could Return to Classical Political Rationalism Help to Conquer Modern Nihilism?——Reflection on Leo Strauss's Predicaments of Thoughts

列奥·施特劳斯将西方现代性的根本问题归结为虚无主义,并认为复归苏格拉底和柏拉图式的古典政治理性主义是化解西方现代虚无主义困境的根本出路之一。施特劳斯为现代虚无主义问题的解决所开出的处方,存在着三个方面的困境:一是自然正当能否被证成的困境;二是对于被赋予至上权力的哲学精英而言,其腐化的风险是否能被有效控制的困境;三是政治哲学的理论努力能否改变虚无主义的现实状况的困境。

Leo Strauss believes that the basic problem of western modernity is nihilism,and thinks that one of the basic ways to conquer nihilism is to return to the classical political rationalism initiated by Socrates and Plato.However,three predicaments lies in Leo Strauss＇s prescription： the first one is whether the natural right can be justified;the second one is whether the corruption risk of those philosophical elites endowed with supreme power can be controlled effectively; the third one is whether the theoretical effort of political philosophy can change the predicaments of nihilism in the real world.
