摘要
近一个世纪前的民国大学,作为东西方文化良性融合的结晶体,最大可敬之处是对舶自西方的现代大学基本品格的尊重,具体表现在:把教育与科研置于主导地位来设计大学的主体制度,承认并保障私立大学的公平地位,于教师聘任、晋升制度中所体现的破格取才态度,大学校长专心一职,严控毕业出口等方面。这些理念和具体做法,对今日中国的大学改革仍具有重要的借鉴参考价值。
About one century ago,during the period of the Republic of China,quite a few universities were established as a result of the collision of Eastern and Western cultures.One of the most admirable things about these universities,where presidents devoted all their time and energy to running the schools,was their adherence to the ideal of university in the West,that is,they placed teaching and research at the heart of the system,recognized and ensured equal status for private universities,rigorously assured the quality of graduates,and made remarkable exceptions in faculty recruitment and promotion if necessary.All these ideas and practices could prove illuminating for higher education reform in China today.
