英语关系从句外置结构的功能主义分析

A Functionalist Analysis of Relative Clause Extraposition Constructions in English

摘要 从功能主义语言学角度分析了英语关系从句外置结构,发现外置结构中的关系化名词NPrel是前景化的信息,关系从句Srel是后景化的信息;从句的分布不仅受到了末端重量原则的影响,也受到了像似动因的制约,两者的协同作用产生了特殊的从句语序现象。 It is uncovered through a functionalist analysis of Relative Clause Extrapesition Constructions in English that NPrel is foregrounding information and Srel is backgrounding information, that the distribution of relative clau- ses is not only constrained by the end - weight principle, but also by iconic motivations, the synergy of which pro- duces special clause sequencing.
