摘要
以心理学主要理论动机理论为基础,从内在起因、外在诱因和自我调节三方面分析林语堂从事中期汉英翻译的动机,指出林氏该阶段的翻译活动之所以不同于当时中国主流翻译趋势,是自身内在因素和外在环境共同作用,并通过自我调节产生的结果,是译者主体性的例证。
Based on the theory of motivation, a major theory in psychology, the motivation for mid Lin Yutang＇ s C - E translation is analyzed from three angles ： internal demands, external inducements and self - regulation. It is pointed out that Lin Yutang＇ s trans- lation choice, which is different from that of most of his Chinese contemporaries, should be ascribed to his self - regulation of per- sonal and social factors. This is the very example of a translator＇ s subjectivity.
