The highlights and essence of literary works generally lie in exotic language, which is best illustrated in O. Henry＇ s works noted for its unique style of humor and an end typified in European literature. Through a contrastive analysis of some translated ver- sions of O. Henry＇ s The Cop and the Anthem, the present paper endeavors to discuss the defamiliarization strategy employed in the short story translation with a view to representing the de, familiarlzation techniques in literary translation practice.
