《推销员之死》打破了古希腊悲剧对主人公的规定,选择普通人物作为戏剧中的主人公;这虽然不符合亚里士多德给悲剧所下的定义,但是它在时间长度、完整情节、或然律或必然律等方面是符合亚氏悲剧理论的。这表明《推销员之死》突破传统的悲剧概念,是一部现代意义上的悲剧。

Death of a Salesman does not conform to regulations in Greek tragedy for choosing an ordinary man as its protagonist.Though it violates Aristotle＇s theory of tragedy,it conforms to his theory on the time length,unity of plot,reversal of the situation,etc.It proves that Death of a Salesman is a breakthrough in idea of tragedy and is a modern tragedy.
