摘要
"西州"及"北州"、"东州"、"南州"、"中州",这种划分天下的"分域说"或"五州说",只是汉代人一种习惯上的用法,每一州所指区域并不确实,但在大致范围上还是有共识的。"西州"最初专指益州地区,但是随着西北边疆之开拓,"西州"所指渐延及凉州、朔方;由于西北一隅对两汉国势的影响远大于西南地区,"西州"概念的重心渐次转移到凉州、朔方地区了。
The common saying of partitioning the country into five prefectures of West,North,South,East and Center does not mean that they are real areas,although roughly they are.'Xizhou',namely West Prefecture,was Yizhou originally.With development of the northwest frontier,it was extended gradually to cover Liangzhou and Suofang.The reason why the heart of Xizhou was moved to Liangzhou and Suofang was that the northwest was far more important for the two Han dynasties than the southwest.
