In July 2003, Xinxiang Municipal Archaeological Team excavated some tombs of the Western and Eastern Han Dynasties located to the west of Wuling Village, Fengquan District in the north of Xinxiang City. The types of these tombs are earthen cave tomb with shaft passage and brick-chamber tomb, the grave goods of which are potteries including Ding-tripods, cases, pots, jars, bowls, Fu-cauldrons, Yah-steamers, imitation barns, Zun-wine vessels, ladles, pans, horse heads, owls and dogs, the bronzes are mainly belt hooks. The types of these tombs and the grave good assemblages varied from each other, which might be related to their different dates. The sizes of these tombs are usually small and the grave goods are not rich, reflecting that they would be the tombs of common people. The excavation of these tombs will be helpful for exploring the evolution routes of the funeral customs of the common people in Xinxiang area during the Han Dynasty and understanding the situations of the handi- crafts in these area and the influences of the traditional ritual system to the daily lives of the common people at that time.
