The Establishment and Development of Taiwan Higher Education Institutions in Japanese Colonization——case study of Taipei Imperial University

日据时期台湾高等学校的创立具有浓厚的殖民目的,主要是日本人统治经营、经济开发和军事需求的考虑,台北帝国大学的成立即是如此。台湾人进入台北帝国大学的机会受限,高等教育多由日本人垄断,但其办学规划、讲座学制、学科设置、人才培养、科研成果的体现,对光复后台湾的大学教育深具意义及影响。

During Japanese colonization, out of the consideration of Japanese ruling, economical development and military requirements, Taiwan HEIs are established, which shows a strong colonial purpuse. Taipei Imperial University is a typical example. The access to Taipei Imperial University for Taiwan Residents is limited since higher education is dominated by Japanese. Nevertheless, the planning, lecture system, discipline setting, talent training, and research achievement at TaiDei Imperial University is of great significance and influence to Taiwan higher education after retrocession.
