In 2011, China's imports and exorts totaled USD3600 billion at the start of the country's 12th Five-year Plan. It was not easy to attain these achievements while the overseas markets kept stagnating and the domestic growth began to slow down. But the situation was not as good as it appeared to be. According to the latest version of our annual report, The Competitiveness of "Made-in-China", China's foreign trade industries lacked impetus to heighten their competitiveness in the global market. In fact, the country only got a grade of 103.18 in the evaluation of the foreign trade competitiveness, lower than the grade of 103.26 which it attained in 2010. Among the 45 industries of its national economy, 19 improved their competitiveness, while 26 suffered losses in competitiveness. The competitiveness of 29 sectors climbed over the global average. As a leading power of the Chinese foreign trade, the manufacturing industry saw a little drop in its competitiveness. The mega-agriculture still stayed below the global average and its competitiveness kept falling. Just like the agriculture, mining industry was also among the weakest sectors of China's foreign trade. Its competitiveness was still lower than the global average. The best way for China to improve its foreign trade competitiveness may be to speed up its ongoing transformation and upgrading. Although it's hard to do this, China will continue.
