摘要
现代社会的教育困境是现代性批评的重要命题。汤亭亭的第二部小说《华人:金山勇士》描写了三位"老师"的人文教育实践及其悲观结局,并由此对西方现代学校教育的基本状态、教育者在现代社会系统中的困难立场作了深层的隐喻呈现。鉴于美国现代化模式对许多国家的制度示范效应,汤氏对美国现代教育困境的批判包含了全球化批评的实际内容,这也在更广的文化政治视野中呈现了美华文学推进美国文学进步的前沿特质。
The education dilemma in modern society is considered an important subject matter in modernity criticism. China Men, Maxine Hong Kingston's second novel, depicts humanistic education practices and the pessimistic results of three "teachers", whereby the basic conditions of the Western modern school education and educators' dilemma in modern social system are metaphorically presented. In view of the modeling impacts of American modern education on many nations' sys- tem, Kingston' s criticism about the dilemma of modern education involves the actual content of the criticism against globaliza- tion, which also claims the vanguard role of Chinese American culture in the innovation of American culture from a broader cultural and political perspective.
