Semi-submersible ships are mainly used on transportation of offshore engineering such as drilling,and large equipment as well as structures.The time period of semi-submersible ships is the main factor for the working cost and the requirement for weather windows.Air compressors show great competitive advantages and become the first option for the ballast system on semi-submersible ships rather than pump ballast.The article introduces in detail the principle of air ballast,system composition,key points of system design and the application on semi-submersible ships.
