The leaders of “Shanghai Five” have held five summit meetings, and have made a lot of progress on constantly deepening the political, economic and security cooperation in the region. In view of the new situation of the transition from the old structure to the new one, the leaders of the five nations expressed on the fifth summit meeting of Shanghai Five, that “mutual respect and peaceful coexistence are the basic prerequisite and necessary condition for building up the friendly relationship; they would like to use practical measures to seek for the peace, responsibility and security on their border area; equality and consultation, mutual understanding and mutual respect are the best way to settle down the questions left over by history; they would unite together to strike the international wicked force and to safeguard the regional stability, set an example for nations to keep equality and get along and safeguard the regional and international peace together, and open up a path for building up a justice and reasonable new structure for the international politics and economy”. It will not only be helpful for the regional peace and stability but also provide a new security model for peace, security and stability in the Asia Pacific area and the world, which will be different from the cold war thinking. Dushanbe Statement draws a great future for the five nations to further strengthen and broarden their cooperation in the new century.
