Eclogues is known as a collection of pastoral poems composed by Virgil, one of Rome＇s greatest poets. The fourth poem earns him great honour although it is the most controversial in which Virgil predicts the coming of the Golden Age. Through the analysis of differ- ent explanations, the paper holds that the social background should be taken into consideration while analysing and further discussion is con- ducted on the reasonability of the explanation from the perspective of Messia.
