Tang Junyi's Discussion Why Democracy Did Not Appear in Modern China

唐君毅认为中国自近代以来未能建立民主制度,其主要原因在于:中西人文精神不同,中国传统儒家思想认为政治是道德的直接延长,只重视政治人物的道德修养而忽视民主制度的建设,中国知识分子未能尽到自己的责任。

As for the question why democracy did not appear in modern China,the main causes in Tang Junyi＇s eyes were： the humanities were different between in China and in the West;according to Chinese traditional thoughts,politics was the direct continuity of the moral;Chinese intellectuals did not bear their responsibility perfectly owing to their ignorance of the construction of democracy and focused on the politician＇s moral cultivation.
