In recent years, structural priming has emerged as a new paradigm in language comprehension and production studies. This paper reviews studies of structural priming in the field of language comprehension, focusing on the nature of structural priming effects, the implications of this research paradigm for examining some central issues concerning the mechanisms of human language processing, and the fresh insights that the paradigm has provided for language comprehension studies. Also included in this paper is a brief analysis of controversies in current studies and of the directions for further research.
