Modlaenz is a kind of ritual practices spread among Zhuang People in China's Debao, Jingxi, Napo and so on, and Mawlum is a singing art among theYankee Group in Laos and Thailand. Both is similar in pronunciation and different in meaning. Through investigating them with their civil folk religious Mod and Maw, we can find out the internal connection between them. The title of Mod and Maw may have existed before the differentiation of Zhuang and Lao people, which was called for the public singing tradition for Zhuang and Thai group.
