摘要
1900年,铃木大拙以唐代实叉难陀的新译本《大乘起信论》为蓝本,将其从汉语转译成英文。译本将中国佛教大乘思想系统译介给西方,引起学界关注。文化层面上,铃木译本契合了当时的比较宗教学理路以及西方对理性主义进行反思的浪潮。文本策略方面,译文在"自我"与"他者"间达到了一种微妙的平衡,助推了译本的成功。铃木本人方面,译本成功的深层原因要归于其文化自觉——体现为宗教冲动和对东西方文化的体认两方面。
In 1900, Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki, based on the "New Translation" done by Cikshananda,translated Acvaghosha' s Discourse on the Awakening of Faith lish world, an immediate attention thus aroused. This paper in the Mahtiyana from Chinese into the Engattempts at the analysis of the cultural orientations behind the TT, comparative religious studies, anti -rationalism and political dimensions included. As to the strategies applied to the TT, how "self" and "other" are balanced proved to be a key factor to its successful reception. On the personal level, the root of such a success is due to the translator' s cultural consciousness characterized by his religious impulse and his deep understanding of the difference between eastern and western cognitive styles.
