翻译的过程涉及译者的理解和表达两个阶段。汉语成语翻译中形象语言的处理是成语翻译成功与否的关键,既涉及到两种语言的表达形式,更涉及到两种文化背景。在汉语成语英译的理解阶段,译者要充分激活与文本相关的图式,同时也要充实自身的知识和文化图式。在汉语成语英译的表达阶段,译者要做到激活译文读者头脑中已有的图式,还要帮助译文读者构建新的图式,以致达到跨文化交际的目的。

The process of translation involves the translator＇ s understanding and expression. The image language processing in the translation of Chinese idioms is the key to success of idiom translation, which not only involves two kinds of language expression but also two cultural backgrounds. In the understanding phase of translating Chinese idioms into English, the translator should fully activate the schema related to the text, and enrich his own knowledge and cultural schema. In the expression phase of translating Chinese idioms into English, the translator should activate the existing schema of target language readers, and meanwhile help them build a new pattern, so as to achieve the goal of intercuhural communication.
