On the Communicative Role of Modal Particles

现代汉语语气助词的基本作用是增加句子的语气,而不同的语气助词所表达的语气含义要受到上下文等语境因素的制约。脱离语境,语气助词的意义则变得模糊、不确定,因而,语气助词具有语用成分的特质。在我们的日常交际中,语气助词除了能表明说话人的语气,也是我们表达思想、抒发感情的重要语法手段。此外,它还是作家用来刻画人物的不可或缺的话语成分。

The fundamental role of modal particles in modern Chinese is to increase the tone of sentences,while the tone meaning expressed by the different modal particles is restricted by context and other contextual factors.Out of context,the meaning of the modal particle is ambiguous and uncertain,therefore,modal particles have the characteristics of pragmatic components.In our daily communication,besides showing the speaker＇s tone,modal particles are the important syntax means for us to express our thoughts and feelings.In addition,they are indispensable discourse components used by writers to portray characters.
