Objective A comparison of the response of patients with severe disorders of consciousness to the uttering of his/her own namewas compared with their response to bell ringingwas conducted in order to provide a frame of reference forchoosing standard auditory stimuli.Method CRS-R scale was used for clinical measurement of consciousness inrandomly selected 50 DOC patients. As to the item of sound location,we recorded the patients' location response to bell ringing and to the uttering of his/her own name and compared the sensitivity to both in DOC patients.Findings Location responses tothe uttering of a subject's own name and bell ringing in 50 DOC patients were displayed in table 1.In MCS/EMCS(Emergency from MCS) patients(n=27).The comparison showed that the patients were more sensitive to the uttering of his/her own name than to bell ringing(p0.05),while in VS and in all DOC,there was no significant difference. Conclusion Own name uttering as stimuli can work better than bell ringingas standard orientation item of auditory subscale in CRS-R.
