The Causes of Paul's Death in "The Rocking-horse Winner"

《木马赢家》中保罗之死的原因是多方面的。一是英国资本主义工业文明带来的金钱意识对人与人之间关系的扭曲与异化;二是家庭中父亲的缺席,母亲的贪婪,舅舅的投机对保罗精神的摧残;三是保罗不顾自己年幼、无力,却试图维持家庭的宁静,满足母亲的物质享受而导致心力交瘁离世。

The protagonist Paul died because he was mentally and physically exhausted for crazy bet on the horses.There are some reasons for Paul＇s early death.Firstly the money consciousness caused by capitalism industrial civilization distorted and aliened the relationship of the human being;Secondly the irresponsibility of his father,the coldness of the mother,opportunism of his uncle made Paul to be a profitable tool;Lastly Paul himself tried to maintain the peace of the family and get his mother＇s love after satisfying his mother＇s material comfort,not considering his young age and weakness.
