从表达形式的文体功能看人物引语的翻译——以《围城》的英译为例

Translation of Speech Presentation from a Perspective of Stylistic Function of Reporting Modes: with Examples from Fortress Besieged

人物引语在小说中具有重要的文体功能,其适恰的表达形式可以同人物的言语或思想在互动中形成艺术张力,以更好地烘托小说的主题意义和美学效果,翻译过程中,译者需以积极的文体意识应对人物引语的表达形式。通过分析《围城》人物引语的英译,认为在文体功能视角的观照下,针对常规人物引语形式的传译,形式对应具有必要性及可行性,而针对"两可型"引语,则需依据叙述声音做出形式变通。

Speech presentation serves a very important stylistic function in narrative fiction. Its artistic tension, which comes from the interaction between a character＇s speech/thought and its proper reporting mode, effectively highlights the thematic and aesthetic significance of a fictional work. Therefore, a translator is in need of stylistic competence to deal with the reporting mode of a certain character＇s speech/thought. The paper, by analyzing the English versions of speech presentation in Fortress Besieged, argues that from the perspective of stylistic function ＂formal correspondence＂ is necessary and feasible for the translation of normal Chinese speech presentation, while ＂formal recasting＂ based on narrative voice is reasonable for BLEND.
