Disussion on Ben Agger's Conception of Cultural Studies

文化研究有不同的形式,有的更为政治化。本·阿格倡导的文化研究,有助于我们对后现代性经验去神秘化,有助于解构后现代,因而实现现代性方案。本·阿格提出了去经典、去学科,反对把文化研究变成一种空洞的方法论,提出没有单一的文化研究形式,提出学院化的研究方式使文化研究致命地偏离了政治参与,这些欧美新左派的文化理论观点对我们准确把握什么是文化研究,具有重要的启迪意义。

The specific task of cultural studies is to explore the possibility of different modes of experience and existence, free of the shackles of the self- regulation tendency from culture industry. However, there are different versions of cultural studies, some are more political. The version of cultural studies advocated by Ben Agger helps us to demystify the experience of post - modernity, and helps to deconstruct post modernity and achieve modernity projects. Ben Agger opposes an empty methodological approach of culture studies, and suggests that there is no canonical form in culture studies since academic philosophical methods make culture studies diverge form political intervention which is crucially necessary in culture studies. The theories and thoughts of the Euro - American new left have made a great contribution to understand what culture studies is.
