第三代移动通信系统(3G)的研究与开发已经在亚洲和欧洲取得了一定成果,相比而言北美的运营者则稍显落后。3G的浪潮也曾在北美运营者的积极引入下席卷美国,但运营者在采取进一步行动前更注重于测试现有的窄带及宽带备选技术,这不仅是出于技术方面的考虑,更多是从经济的角度出发。对3G持观望态度也许是北美运营者的明智之举。
The research and development of the 3G mobile system in Asia and western Europe have gained certain results, and in contrast the North American operators have taken an wait - and - see attitude, which may be advisable. The American operators are attaching importance to the test of the existing alternative NB and BB technologies due to not only technical con-siderations but more importantly the economic perspective.
