Li Kui,a character in The Outlaws of Marsh, was highly valued in certain times. When it comes to the new era, people are beginning to question his heroic image though positive voices are still in the majority. In particular, his two so-called heroic deeds are almost impossible to be challenged by even those who are questioning him.Li Kui cannot be judged as a hero simply from how his story ended.Li Kui has an image of hood-like figures, his rebellion and his attitude against amnesty and surrender were purely originated from his pursue of his own "happiness" instead of any positive significance of overthrowing the rulers.Li Kui cruelly murdered innocent people, hated women, and particularly had zero tolerance towards the so-called men and women "betrayal".Therefore, his simplicity and honesty was not goodness but his personality.Back to the time the creation of Li Kui's image had its own interest, nowadays however it is necessary to reevaluate his image.
