Poetic Nature in Campus ——Take Peking University as the Center

诗歌乃大学之精魂。自新文化运动以来,文学教育偏重于"史"而逊于文章性情,已是不争的事实,并导致了当今大学文学教育在专业与趣味、知识与技能之间的苦苦挣扎。在这样的情形下,北京大学将诗歌传统与新文化传统在相当程度上结合起来,并以几十年流传至今的校园文化形式加以表达,就显得弥足珍贵,值得发掘和载藏。北大培养了众多诗人,更重要的是它的诗性文化熏染了一代代学子,从宿舍里的埋头写作到图书馆旁的如切如磋,从未名湖诗会到未名诗歌节,这些形式不同但充满狂欢节气息的诗歌活动使每一个学子在校期间都能与诗歌有亲密接触,使一种理想、诗意和情感积淀为个体精神的内在部分,而成为其人生中的一个华彩乐章。大学需要诗歌的滋养,是诗歌令大学自有高格、自成气象。

Poetry is the quintessence of university. Ever since the new cultural movement, the education of literature laid on its history, rather than its literary characteristics. Such a fact has resulted in a bitter struggle between field and taste, and between knowledge and technique in contemporary teaching of literature in universities. While Peking University combines the traditions of poetry and new culture, and expresses it in the hitherto form of campus culture, thus has trained not a few poets. More importantly, its poetic culture has influenced the students generations after generations. The forms of ＂No-Name Lake Poetry Get-Together＂ and ＂No-Name Lake Poetry Season＂ made every student have close contact with poems, in which the individual spirit has accumulated ideal, poetics and sentiment to form a colorful canto in the life of the students. Universities need poems, and poetry makes up the soul of universities.
