Objective To explore the application value of susceptibility weighted imaging (SWI) in the Parkinson disease (PD) diagnosis by analysis the changes of brain iron content of the basal ganglia and red nucleus. Methods Totally 56 cases of patients with PD and 40 cases of normal control group were diagnosed by SWI with the 3.0 T magnetic resonance imaging system, the corresponding phase image by using SWI processing software was obtained, the signal values of the various regions of the brain basal ganglia and red nucleus were measured and compared. Results In comparison of PD group with normal control group, the signal values showed differences in caudate (0.05±0.01vs. 0. 04±0.01, t= 1. 991), putamen(-0. 42±0.13 vs. -0.25±0.07, t=2. 544) and globus pallidus(- 0. 23 + 0. 07 vs. -0.11±0.02, t=2.893) (all P〈0.05). Conclusions Determining the iron deposition signal of the various regions of the brain basal ganglia by SWI is valuable in the clinical diagnosis of Parkinson's disease.
