通过考察从事英语教学的晚清传教士所具备的语言功底和文化素质,分析了传教士成功开展英语教学的重要原因之一是其自身拥有的扎实的中、英语言功底和良好的中、西文化素质。进而论证了其对当今高等院校的外语教学所具有的宝贵的启发和借鉴意义;并在此启发下,对当今的高校英语师资建设工作提出了一些切实可行、容易操作的改进措施。

By studying the missionaries＇ language skills and cultural qualities in the Late Qing Dynasty,the article demonstrates the excellent language skills and good cultural qualities the missionaries possess are one of important reasons why they succeed in teaching English;On this basis,then the article expounds the above-mentioned reason has the valuable enlightens and reference significance;And the article puts forward some practicable and easily operated improvement measures on the constructions of English teachers in the universities.
