Constitution Gardens

The National Mall the most visited national park in US, with more than 25 million annual visitors and 3,000 annual permitted events. This 700-acre park was not built to withstand this level of use and has not received adequate resources to be restored. To gain more guests and visitor, This National mall is going to be redesigned for its three prominent locations including Constitution Gardens, Sylvan Theater at the Washington Monument Grounds, and The Union Square. To accomplish these goals the Trust for the National Mall is sponsoring a design competition for three key areas on the National Mall. The competition kicked off on September 8th, 2011 and after the jury-evaluation, public exhibition and interviews, the winners were announced on May 3rd, 2012. The competition winners are： Rogers Marvel Architects ＋ Peter Walker and Partners（Constitution Gardens）, OLIN ＋ Weiss/Manfredi（Sylvan Theater at the Washington Monument Grounds） and Gustafson Guthrie Nichol ＋ Davis Brody Bond（Union Square）.With the support of National Mall Trust, the three winning proposals are featured in this issue .
