摘要
通识教育的目的并不能简单等同于培养一般意义上的"通才"。其目标应定位为延续共同体和社群的文明传统和价值理念,并能够回应现当代社会的变化和困境,将其落实在学生主要基本能力的培养之上。对这些目的的澄清将有助于通识教育能够在中国真正建立其起点。
This article attempts to address the evolution and idea of general education preached by Columbia University and Harvard University in the 19th and 20 th Century.The purpose of general education is not only to cultivate generalists,but also to preserve traditions of people's community and culture.In the meantime,general education should be able to be responsive to the dilemmas and paradoxes that modern society faces.A clarification on the purpose of general education would conduce to laying the foundation for undergraduate general education programs in Chinese universities.
