林乐知是晚清著名来华传教士,作为主编,他在《万国公报》上刊登了大量有关近代中国妇女问题的文章。从对中国女俗陋习的批判、缘由的探求,到提出一系列积极且有价值的解决办法与实践,林乐知为中国妇女解放事业的启蒙做出了重要的贡献,但也有其不可避免的局限性。探求林乐知与中国妇女问题,有益于我们加深对传教士与中国近代妇女解放运动关系问题的理解。

Young J.Allen was a famous protestant missionary to China in the late Qing Dynasty.As the chief editor,he provided lots of articles about Chinese women problem in modern times in Wan-kuo kong-pao.From critiquing on Chinese corrupt women custom and pursuing for the reasons,to proposing series of positive and valuable solution methods and practices,the contribution that he made to the enlightenment of liberation business of Chinese women is significant,and the limitation is also inevitable.Discussing Young J.Allen and the Chinese women problem,we wish to make a deeper comprehension on the relationship between protestant missionary and the women liberation movement in modern China.
