Kenneth Burke,the representative of American New Rhetoric at the 20th century,is a lifetime bosom friend of William Carlos Williams and his thinking has a profound impact on Williams.This paper,starting from Williams's poem 'At Kenneth Burke's Place',aims to discuss the similarities between Williams's 'language' and Kenneth Burke's rhetoric philosophy.By doing so,the paper hopes to understand better Williams's poetry and poetics.Specifically speaking,Williams's 'language' and Burke's rhetoric thinking like 'symbolic action' and 'identification' converge;the 'function of sociality' of 'contact' and the essence of 'things' are their shared directions.That is why William's poetry is significant,both in terms of its literary achievement and its penetration into reality,for people of different times and places.
