赫兹列的说理散文深具雄辩睿智的说理性,颇多逻辑严密的文句,同时又具有绘画般的文笔,在风格上独具特色。潘文国教授译《赫兹列散文精选》时充分还原并重构原作的辩证思维、篇章逻辑思维和形象思维,且采用文言笔法还原原作特色,形神兼备,堪称化境,为英汉散文翻译树立了新典范,值得借鉴。
Hazlitt＇s essays have been renowned for smart and persuasive argumentation, and logical rea- soning and picturesque language as well. When translating his essays, Pan Wenguo has almost achieved the effects described by Qian Zhongshu＇s theory of sublimation, by successfully restoring the different types of thinking, including dialectical thinking, textual logic and figurative thinking revealed in the source text, and by translating with classic Chinese.
