The Perfect Blending of the Old and the New——On the Language Style in A Scots Quair

This essay first introduces the unique language style in A Scots Quair generally, then analy- ses it in detail from two aspects ： the purpose, feature and effect of blending old Scots vernacular and new English literary language ; and the purpose and effect of blending various types of traditional literature and revolutionary expressions in the narrative language of the work. And through the perfect blending of the new and the old, the author not only expresses his great feeling for his homeland and its people, but also communicates his strong sense of historical development and his hope for a brigh- ter future of old Scotland by means of new revolutionary ways.
