The overall development, preparation process and much research and applications of monolithic catalyst in a variety of fields were reviewed. In the paper, we described some applications on heterogeneous catalytic reactions. The reasons for the successful use of monoliths in environmental applications lay on the excellent low-pressure drop, high specific surface, good mass-transfer and mechanical properties compared with the traditional catalyst. The application perspective was also discussed based on the advantages and disadvantages.
