Mandelblit first raised cognitive translation by classifying metaphor translation into two seniors: similar mapping condition(SMC) and different mapping condition(DMC) and provided corresponding translation strategies. In recent years,Mandelblit’s cognitive translation has been widely applied, such as in the translation of political metaphors, but rarely in the metaphor translation of nautical proverbs.Furthermore, simply deeming DMC as a "complicated" and "untranslatable" condition is comparatively ambiguous. Therefore,in this essay, basing on the Mandelblit’s cognitive theories and taking English nautical proverbs as subjects, the author future summarizes a PMC on the basis of DMC and a partial-mapping condition of vehicles between ST and TT,aiming at figuring out the more systematic approaches in the metaphor translation of nautical proverbs.
