On Secret Societies and Democratic Revolution in Sichuan in Qing Dynasty

清季四川民主革命成功的原因除有革命党人的艰苦斗争和对清末知识分子的宣传外,清季四川秘密社团的作用不可小觑。包括秘密社团对革命党的联络,为革命提供组织和群众基础;社团成员充当革命主力,使党人在川举事有力可持;为革命党在川举事提供经费支持,缓解党人财政紧张局面。清季四川秘密社团与革命党人间的"党团"互动关系频繁,在四川民主革命中十分活跃,对四川民主革命的影响深远。

The success of democratic revolution in Sichuan was due to the hard struggle of revolutionaries and the intel- lectuals＇ propaganda as well as the effort of some secret societies in late Qing Dynasty. The connection including secret socie- ties＇ with revolutionaries afforded the revolution with organization and mass foundation. And the members of these societies as the main force of the revolution gave the great support to it. Further, they afforded financial help and this greatly mitigated revolutionaries＇ fund shortage. During this period, these secret societies interacted with revolutionaries and they were active in democratic revolution in Sichuan, which had exerted great influence on it.
