按照蔡元培的大学理念,研究性是大学的重要品格之一。大学的研究性品格决定了大学是以治学为宗旨的研究高深学问的机构,它负有探究学理和培养研究性人才的使命和责任。治学与治术是大学与高等专门学校的真正区别所在。大学的研究性品格规定了它是一个自主性的机构,自主性是研究性的内在需要,是由研究主体的个性化特征决定的,它体现在教育独立、学术民主、教师自主和学生自治四个方面。

According to CAI Yuanpei＇ s idea of university, research is one of the important characters of universi- ty. The research character determines university as the institution which studies the profound learning as its pur- pose ; it bears the mission and responsibility of inquiry of science and cultivation of talents. Learning and skill are the real difference between university and college. The research character of university determines that university is an autonomous institution, autonomy is the intrinsic need of research and is determined by the individual character- istics of research subject, which manifests such four aspects as educational independence, academic democracy, the teachers＇ and students＇ autonomy.
