The present paper reinterprets The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from the perspective of nostalgia on the basis of historical analysis as well as a comparison between the author and his character Huck.It argues that, being unable to clear his identity, confusion resulting from his awkward middleclass status,Twain actualizes a kind of visionary integrity by creating Huck,an ultra innocent and authentic boy.By doing so Twain takes advantage of the compensating and comforting effects of the strategy of nostalgia. This conclusion reveals Twain’s discourse strategy in dealing with his disadvantaged social status and provides new insights into the novel’s themes and cultural significance.
