According to the thoughts and states expressed in Emily Dickinson’s 1775 poems, this article divides these poems into three creative phases: the state of "what you see is what you see"before practicing Chan, the state of"what you see is not what you see"after beginning to practice Chan, and the state of"what you see remains what you see"after enlightenment;showing that Chan’s three levels of verifying Dao twinkled in some of Emily Dickinson’s poems goes on to show how Emily Dickinson attained enlightenment to some degree and explains why she was regarded as an eccentric in her contemporary’s eyes.
