基于语料库的“convention”和“regulation”近义词对比研究

A corpus-based contrast between synonyms of“convention”and “regulation”

为了区分convention和regulation,并为近义词的学习和使用提供借鉴,利用英语国家语料库和SPSS统计软件,讨论了这两个词在表示法律条款这一含义时,在词频分布和搭配上的差异。结果表明:convention比regulation用于更正式场合;convention主要与表示外交中重大和严肃的国际事务的形容词搭配,regulation倾向于与表示某一特定领域或主题的形容词搭配;与convention搭配的动词主要跟合同、文件或协议的签署和结束有关,而与regulation搭配的动词主要是对合同、文件或协议内容的条款进行解释。

In order to discriminate between the synonyms of＂convention＂and＂regulation＂and shed some light on the learning and using of synonyms,British National Corpus（BNC）,an on-line research platform and SPSS,a statistic software were based on to make a discussion of the differences in frequency distribution and collocation between the two words when they are used to denote legal documents.Findings show that adjectives collocating with＂convention＂are more formal than the ones with ＂regulation＂since＂convention＂often collocates with serious and important international affairs in diplomacy.However,＂regulation＂tends to collocate with adjectives denoting some specific fields or subjects.Meanwhile,＂convention＂is closely related to verbs dealing with the signing and termination of agreements,but＂regulation＂collocates with verbs used to explain the causes in contracts,documents or agreements in detail.
