This paper describes the American linguist Kaplan＇s hypothesis and the Hoey＇s textual pattern theory.The author compares the textual patterns of English and Chinese,and discusses the enlightenment to the teaching of English reading based on the comparison of the textual patterns of English and Chinese during the process of students＇ reading.
