The 600 t/a pilot scale PDP for manufacture of epichlo- rohydrin (ECH) through epoxidation developed in a ten- year period by SINOPEC's Baling Petrochemical Com- pany in collaboration with RIPP has passed the review sponsored by the Sinopec Corp. This PDP adopts the independently developed special catalyst, the fixed-bed shell-and-tube reactor, and the unique technology for con- trolling the acidity of reaction media to directly synthesizeECH from chloropropene and hydrogen peroxide, with the conversion of H202 reaching 〉97% and the ECH se- lectivity reaching 〉95%. This process can provide a high quality and a high yield of ECH with its purity reaching 99.99% to be suitable for synthesis of high-grade epoxy resins. This new technology has greatly reduced the dis- charge of wastewater and waste solids as compared with the traditional chlorohydrin process.
