The difference in rhythm pattern between English and Chinese and solutions in teaching

在英语语音教学中,我们时常看到大部分中国学生不能理解普通话和英语节奏之间的明显差别,或不能分辨具体差别在什么地方。其主要表现为:重音平均,弱读形式少;连读困难;调值把握不准确。解决这些问题应主要加强三个方面的训练:一是加强音节轻、重音训练;二是加强连续缩读训练;三是加强调值调型训练。

Rhythm is the soul of english,and it is the biggest gap for Chinese students to bridge when learning phonetics.Inappropriate rhythm make the speech sound strange.Most Chinese students cannot find and understand the difference in rhythm pattern between English and Chinese,and naturally they employ Chinese rhythem pattern to speak english.As Chinese is syllable-timed language,the pattern cannot be applied to English way of speaking.By analysing the rhythm patterns in English,including stress,intonation,length of sound,this paper will give suggestion on phonetics training.
